Troon North Golf Club
Monument
Located in North Scottsdale, Troon North Golf Club stands as the "epitome" of the desert golf experience. The course stretches through the natural canyons and foothills in the high Sonoran desert resting at the base of famous local landmark, Pinnacle Peak.
Pinnacle Golf Course
The Pinnacle Course is Monument’s younger but more aggressive sibling. Pinnacle is even more challenging and offers more elevation changes and still more of the wonderful, panoramic views that are found on Monument. One of Tom Weiskopf’s early solo efforts, Pinnacle announced to the world that this designer was "destined" for greatness.
Either track will test your shot making skills while the incredible views play subtle tricks with your perception. Be careful not to be mesmerized by the shere beauty of the high Sonoran Desert.
The greens run pure and fast however you must be aware of the "valley effect" when putting. Don't be fooled by putts that "appear" to be downhill unless you are absolutely certain of he mountains and the valleys which will influence the speed and line.
Shot for shot I find the Pinnacle course to be more risk/reward. There are fewer homes lining the fairways and around the greens which seem to make the course appear wider and more receptive to the occassional errant shot. You will get a really good taste of desert golf at Troon North.
